What is the qualification?

The qualification students will gain is the ILM Introductory Certificate in Team Leading – Level 2, which consists of an end of course examination.

	Students are assessed by a 1 hour knowledge assessment

	The award enables the students to progress from this to another ILM qualification i.e. ILM Level 3 Introductory Certificate in First Line Management

	The award is on the framework, therefore schools can draw down LSC funding to run this programme. For more detailed information on funding please click here.

What type of student should do it?

	Year 12 or 13

	They must be already engaged in some form of part-time work or voluntary activity (e.g. community work, assisting in extra curricular activities such as dramatic productions or sports teams)

	Able to work on a level 2 programme (equivalent to a GCSE)

What type of students have done it in the past?

A mixture of

	Academically bright who did it as another thing to put on their UCAS personal statement

	Less able academically (may be spending Year 12 re-sitting GCSEs or on a reduced time table of GNVQs and so have some extra time to spare and would benefit from a vocationally relevant qualification)

How much work is involved for the school?

One person in the school needs to act as Co-ordinator for CRAC. Teachers who have run the programme in the past have said the time involved has been less than anticipated. A total of 10 days over the 6 months was the average time spent by a teacher.

Their role includes:

	Enrolling students

	Providing names and details of students to CRAC

	Supporting them over the 6 month period

	Providing ICT facilities for students to do the CD-ROM element of the course

	Providing time for students to attend a 2-day workshop at start and 1-day workshop at end

	Providing time for students to meet mentors on 2 occasions between start & finish of programme

	Liaising with another school over workshop dates and information if collaborating with neighbouring schools

	Providing CRAC with relevant information to pass to awarding body

What facilities does the school need to run InsightPlus™?

	A space large enough for the group to meet in plenary for a 2-day workshop (usual CRAC style activities)

	ICT facilities in between workshops for students to access pcs to work on the coursework accessed through this website

Why should we do it?

	Meets government agenda of ‘blurring the line between work and education’ and collaboration between schools

	Meets the government agenda of enterprise education which is being piloted in some schools this year

	Turns the ‘necessary evil’ of part-time work into a positive learning experience

	It can act as a retention tool for those wavering between work and education

	Evaluation of pilot undertaken by UCAS demonstrated that students were more self confident and had a greater understanding of their own skills as a result of taking part in InsightPlus™

Research conducted with Higher Education Admissions tutors shows a programme such as InsightPlus™ is looked upon very favourably in applications to HE.
